Ukrainian troops blow up Russian Tor missile system

Ukrainian forces have successfully destroyed a modern Russian Tor surface-to-air missile system.

Recent footage showcases the effective targeting of Russian air defense assets by Ukrainian forces, with HIMARS M31 GMLRS rockets delivering precise strikes on both modern 9K331 Tor-M1 and aging 9K35 Strela-10 short-range air defense systems.

In the video, the two vehicles are positioned closely within a treeline. The initial strike targets the Strela-10, although the extent of damage appears manageable. Despite attempts to evade, the Tor-M1’s 9A331 transporter erector launcher relocates after the first strike but is subsequently pinpointed by Ukrainian UAVs. A precision strike then ensues, resulting in a fire and the destruction of the Tor-M1 vehicle.

The “Tor” stands as one of the few Russian short-range air defense systems highly effective against cruise missiles and precision-guided munitions. Most Tor systems are based on the GM-355 tracked chassis, allowing them to maneuver across diverse terrains akin to tanks and other armored vehicles.

The footage also captures a Ukrainian Shark UAV monitoring what seems to be a Russian rescue or recovery effort following the strike on the Tor-M1.
