The U.S. State Department has cleared a possible $248.5 million foreign military sale of AIM-120C-7/8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to Spain.
On September 2, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the Pentagon’s top arms broker, announced that the U.S. State Department has cleared the possible sale of 100 AIM-120C-7/8 missiles and one AMRAAM Guidance Section and related equipment for an estimated cost of $248.5 million.
“This proposed sale will improve Spain’s capability to meet current and future threats by increasing its stocks of AMRAAMs for its fighter aircraft fleets in support of national defense. The potential sale will further strengthen the interoperability between the United States and Spain,” DSCA’s statement said. “Spain will have no difficulty absorbing these additional missiles into its armed forces.”
The prime contractor will be Raytheon Missiles and Defense, Tucson, AZ.
The AIM-120 advanced medium-range air-to-air missile (AMRAAM) is a new generation all-weather, missile manufactured by Raytheon. The AMRAAM is in service with the US Air Force (USAF), US Navy (USN), and over 25 US-allied nations.
Last week, State Department also approved sell pf AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs to Japan.
