The Florida-headquartered subsidiary of defense contractor General Dynamics has been awarded a $92,4 million modification to a previously awarded contract to build and delivery 120mm tank ammunition for Iraq.
The U.S. weapon maker General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has received $92,4 million for 120mm munition high explosive with tracer tank ammunition cartridges, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Oct. 16, 2022. U.S. Army Contracting Command, New Jersey, is the contracting activity.
The company’s website said the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is an industry and global leader in the manufacture of 105mm and 120mm caliber tactical and training ammunition. The 120mm tank ammunition combines tremendous firepower with technological advancements to provide unsurpassed combat effectiveness.
This tank ammunition will be used for Iraqi Army M1A1 Abrams tanks.
Iraq bought 140 of the M1A1 Abrams tank for $2 billion starting in 2008 through a Foreign Military Sales agreement with the U.S. The Iraqi army actively used US-made tanks in the fight against ISIS militants.
