Ukrainian Army received batch of upgraded T-80, T-64BV tanks and new BTR-4 APCs

The Ukrainian Army has received the new batch of upgraded  T-80 and T-64BV tanks and new BTR-4 armoured vehicle personnel carriers.

UkrOboronProm on 3 October has announced that the Ukrainian Army received the new batch of 16 upgraded  T-80 and T-64BV tanks modernised by ‘Kharkiv Armored Plant‘ and 5 new BTR-4 (with modern German Deutz engines ) armoured personnel carriers (APC) developed by the ‘Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau‘.

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov visited the flagships of the armored industry of Ukraine – the State enterprise “Malyshev Plant” where as instructed by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, a ceremonial handover of armament and military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine noted that during deep modernization and re-equipment of the tanks, new constructive solutions were introduced – “an automatic fire control system with a laser rangefinder, ballistic calculator and a complex of guided weapons have been developed and installed, which also allows firing guided missiles”.

Moreover, Mr. Turchynov stressed that the level of protection and structural changes introduced given the use of BTR-4 in combat conditions, “made it one of the most effective military vehicles in the Armed Forces of Ukraine”.

According to Mr. Turchynov, the production, modernization, and renovation of combat equipment and armaments for the Ukrainian army are put on the line. “Since the beginning of the year about 2000 weapons and units of military equipment have been manufactured and modernized by Ukrainian under the state defense order”, – he said.

“It is crucial that the development of the defense-industrial complex means the strengthening of the defense capability and economy of the state and jobs creation”, – the NSDC Secretary underscored.

According to Mr. Turchynov, to produce military equipment transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine today, “four powerful Kharkiv enterprises were involved – the State enterprise “Malyshev Plant”, Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau, Balakliya Repair Plant, and Kharkiv Special Machine Plant”.

“The defense industry of the Kharkiv region substantially strengthens the defense capability of our country. The armor produced by the enterprises provided reliable protection for our military servicemen”, – he stressed adding that every day of the hard work of domestic defense enterprises “makes us stronger and closer Ukraine’s victory”.
