U.S. F-22, F-35 fighter jets move closer to Iran

U.S. fighter jets are rapidly deploying to the Middle East as the Pentagon escalates its military posture in response to rising tensions with Iran.

According to The Aviationist, squadrons of F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightning II aircraft are already en route to the region, following what Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described as an “enhancement of the defensive posture in the region.”

The move comes just days after the U.S. Air Force conducted a wide-scale deployment of KC-135 aerial refueling tankers, many using “GOLD” callsigns commonly linked to Coronet missions supporting fighter transfers.

Aviation photographers later captured three KC-135 Stratotankers escorting 12 F-35s departing the Royal Air Force base at Lakenheath, U.K., heading toward the Middle East.

Secretary Hegseth confirmed the deployments in a statement issued over the weekend. “Protecting U.S. forces is our top priority and these deployments are intended to enhance our defensive posture in the region,” Hegseth said. He added that the order to deploy came after internal consultations amid the deteriorating security climate in the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility.

A now-deleted post from the popular aviation tracker account @CoronetEast claimed, “Twelve F-22s and F-35s deploying to the Gulf in the next 48 hours.” Although not officially confirmed, this matched reports of preparations at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, home to the 1st and 192nd Fighter Wings, which operate three F-22 squadrons.

In parallel with the fighter deployment, Al Jazeera has reported that dozens of U.S. B-52 bombers are now stationed at Diego Garcia, a remote Indian Ocean base that places them within range of Iran.

The White House has publicly maintained that U.S. forces remain in a defensive stance. “American forces are maintaining their defensive posture, and that has not changed,” said White House spokesperson Alex Pfeiffer.

Yet President Donald Trump has delivered a series of sharply worded warnings directed at Tehran. In a statement posted to Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump wrote, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader’ is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there — We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.”

The president’s remarks, which drew immediate attention from defense analysts and diplomats, continued with a clear ultimatum: “But we don’t want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin.”

In a follow-up post, Trump escalated the rhetoric, calling for Tehran’s “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER.”

According to reporting by Barak Ravid, senior U.S. officials have confirmed that the president is weighing direct military action against Iran and has held “a crucial meeting” with top advisers in Washington.

The situation remains fluid, with U.S. forces across the CENTCOM theater now on heightened alert. The coming days may prove decisive as Washington, Tel Aviv, and Tehran navigate a potentially volatile showdown.
