Kazakhstan to acquire additional Su-30SM ‘Flanker’ fighters jets

Kazakhstan Ministry of Defence is planning to acquire additional Sukhoi Su-30SM ‘Flanker’ fighters jets, the TASS newspaper reported on 06 March.

The Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan plans to conclude a contract with Russia to supply Su-30SM aircraft to the republic.

“Within the framework of the agreement on military-technical cooperation with the Russian Federation in 2018, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan plans to conclude a contract for the supply of Su-30SM multipurpose aircraft, and until 2020 it is planned to purchase additional Su-30SM aircraft and Mi-35 helicopters,” reported by TASS.

At the same time, Kazakhstan’s department did not specify the number of planes and helicopters planned for delivery from Russia.

Kazakhstan bought its first batch of the Su-30SM in 2015 as part of agreements concluded earlier between the defence ministers of the two countries. In 2015, the country began to procure Su-30SM ‘Flanker’ aircraft, with a total of 32 aircraft expected to be delivered by 2020.
