GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors (GM), has revealed its latest tactical vehicle prototype, the “Next Gen,” at the 2024 annual meeting and exposition of the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA).

The Next Gen prototype is based on the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD ZR2 truck and integrates advanced military capabilities with GM’s proven commercial technologies. This tactical vehicle is designed to enhance mobility and durability while providing U.S. forces with enhanced stealth and operational flexibility in high-threat environments.

Steve duMont, president of GM Defense, emphasized the vehicle’s tactical advantages: “Our Next Gen vehicle is a game-changing mobility solution that delivers tactically significant capabilities by integrating GM’s proven commercial technologies. The vehicle can operate with minimal acoustic and thermal signatures, enabling stealthy ingress and egress through hostile areas.

The Next Gen vehicle is powered by GM’s 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel engine and enhanced by a 12-module battery pack, providing extended operational capabilities. It can charge mission systems in the field, ensuring power continuity for high-energy equipment and sensors.

Versatile Configurations and Multi-Mission Capabilities
The Next Gen will be available in two-, four-, and six-seat configurations, with the capability to support a range of critical military missions, including command and control, casualty evacuation, network extension, and anti-armor operations. The vehicle is also optimized for autonomy, adding another layer of versatility to its deployment options.
