Kalashnikov Concern has delivered a new batch of SV-98 sniper rifles to Russian forces under a 2025 state contract, the company said in a statement this week.
The rifles, chambered in 7.62×54R, are widely used in combat operations and were handed over on schedule, the manufacturer noted.
According to the company, the SV-98 is equipped with a free-floating barrel designed for precision fire, especially when used with 7N1 and 7N14 sniper-grade cartridges. The rifle supports the full range of 7.62×54R ammunition and is compatible with various suppressors and optics via a Picatinny rail mounted on the receiver.
Kalashnikov Concern said the rifle is “highly in demand” and continues to see growing interest from the Russian military and security forces more than two decades after its initial introduction. “The SV-98 remains a key asset for precision engagements up to 1,000 meters,” the company said.
Designed in 1998 for Russian special forces and law enforcement units, the SV-98 incorporates updated ergonomic features, including a chassis made of aluminum alloy, a pistol grip crafted from impact-resistant polymer, and a fully adjustable stock. Backup iron sights are also integrated into the platform.
The manufacturer emphasized that the sniper rifle’s continued relevance is due in part to its adaptable design and proven performance in field conditions. The system is actively deployed in what Russia refers to as its “special military operation” in Ukraine—a term used by Russian authorities due to legal restrictions on describing the conflict.
Kalashnikov Concern did not specify the number of rifles delivered but called the shipment part of a “large-scale” supply effort to meet frontline needs.
