Mack Defense has received an initial order for 86 M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks (HDTs) from the U.S. Army as part of a new five-year contract valued at up to $221.8 million.
The order marks the first delivery under the new agreement, which was awarded on June 24, 2025, and follows the successful completion of the company’s previous seven-year contract that began in 2018.

The 86 trucks in this initial order will be funded through the 2025 Department of Defense Budget, highlighting continued federal investment in tactical vehicle modernization and support for the U.S. industrial base. The vehicles are part of a larger plan to deliver as many as 450 M917A3 HDTs over the next five years.
Based on the commercially proven Mack Granite platform, the M917A3 has been heavily modified to meet the Army’s operational requirements. The tactical variant includes all-wheel drive, reinforced rear axles, increased ride height, and ruggedized components for field conditions. Each truck is equipped with modern control systems, ABS, and advanced safety technologies to improve handling, performance, and mission flexibility in challenging terrain.
The M917A3 is designed to operate across a range of mission environments, providing heavy-duty support for engineering tasks and logistics missions that are vital to Army operations worldwide. Its capabilities allow it to transport and deliver large volumes of materials — from gravel and construction supplies to equipment — directly to forward operating locations.
All M917A3 vehicles are assembled at the Mack Experience Center (MEC) in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Mack Defense established a dedicated production line at the facility in 2021 following a $6.5 million investment. The facility has since passed rigorous government inspections and quality audits and remains a key part of Mack Defense’s manufacturing infrastructure supporting the U.S. defense sector.
Production of the M917A3 began in March 2021 and continues to ramp up under the new contract. The flexible production line also enables the company to manufacture additional vehicle variants based on evolving military requirements.
