Israel orders hundreds of new Humvees

Israel’s Ministry of Defense has finalized a $150 million agreement with U.S.-based AM General to purchase hundreds of High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs), widely known as Humvees, for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

According to Militarnyi, the deal was approved by the ministry’s director general, retired Maj. Gen. Amir Baram, and the contract was signed through Israel’s defense procurement mission in the United States. The first shipment of the new vehicles is expected to arrive in Israel by the end of this year.

The acquisition includes not only the delivery of the vehicles but also a comprehensive package of spare parts and technical support to ensure long-term operational readiness.

The specific configuration ordered by Israel is designed for personnel transport and features a reduced armor profile to maximize capacity and mobility. Each vehicle will accommodate more than ten soldiers, enable the simultaneous evacuation of multiple wounded personnel, and provide fire support capabilities in combat zones.

The defense ministry said the purchase reflects Israel’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its tactical vehicle fleet to meet evolving operational requirements.
