Teledyne FLIR wins contract for USCG aircraft sensors

Teledyne FLIR Defense, a division of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, has been awarded a five-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at up to $74.2 million.

The contract will provide the United States Coast Guard (USCG) with modernized imaging surveillance systems for its rotary-wing aircraft fleet.

Under the agreement, Teledyne FLIR will deliver over 125 Electro-Optic Sensor System-Modernized (ESS-M) platforms for integration with the USCG’s MH-60 and MH-65 helicopters. These systems feature a full-HD sensor suite, advanced user interfaces, enhanced processing capabilities, and software improvements designed to accommodate future technological upgrades.

The ESS-M systems offer high-definition imaging across daylight, low-light, and infrared spectrums, providing Coast Guard operators with superior surveillance capabilities. The technology will support a broad array of missions, including search and rescue, marine resource management, and law enforcement.

“The significant updates through ESS-M will enable the U.S. Coast Guard to stay on technology’s cutting edge while conducting its wide range of key maritime operations,” said Dr. JihFen Lei, president of Teledyne FLIR Defense. “We’re proud to extend our history of support and look forward to building our relationship across all mission areas.”

In addition to aiding traditional missions, the ESS-M systems will strengthen coastal security, drug and migrant interdiction, and port and waterway protection. The enhanced imaging technology is expected to play a critical role in the Coast Guard’s rapid response capabilities.
