Last week, Russian forces targeted and destroyed one of Ukraine’s largest power plants, the Trypilska plant, exacerbating an already dire situation exacerbated by a shortage of missile defenses.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed the extent of the attack in an exclusive interview with PBS, detailing how eleven missiles were launched at the plant. Despite successfully intercepting the first seven missiles, Ukrainian defenses faltered, allowing four missiles to breach and ultimately destroy the Trypilska facility.
“Eleven missiles were headed towards it. The first seven, we took down. Four destroyed Trypilska,” said Zelenskyy.
Then he added that the Russians managed to hit the power plant because they simply ran out of missiles.
“We ran out of all missiles,” he said.
Zelenskyy’s remarks underscored the critical shortage of missile defense facing Ukraine, with depleted ammunition reserves leaving vital infrastructure vulnerable to enemy attacks.
