10 Ukrainian Soldiers hurt when vehicle hits roadside bomb

Ten members of the National Guard of Ukraine were injured when a Spartan armored personnel carrier hit a roadside bomb in Avdiyivka, Donetsk region, the press service of the prosecutor’s office of Donetsk region said Tuesday.

“A pretrial investigation found that at about 9:30 a.m. on June 9, 2020, during the travelling of a military vehicle in the area of the Palace of Culture of Avdiyivsky Coke and Chemical Plant, the last Spartan car in the convoy was blown up on an unidentified explosive device,” said in a statement on an official Facebook account.

The Kyiv Post has reported that as a result of the explosion, 10 servicemen received mine explosive injuries. The victims received medical assistance.

The Spartan is a light armoured vehicle developed by the STREIT Group. It is designed to replace conventional manned armoured vehicles for operations in high-threat zones. It can transport ammunition, food, fuel and medicines to the combat zone and can also carry wounded troops to hospitals.

The design of Spartan is divided into three main parts, the engine at the front, crew in the middle and troops compartment at the rear.

The Spartan ASV can be used in off-road and urban conditions offering high mobility and protection. The front of the Spartan is fitted with two large bulletproof windows, and each side of the hull is also fitted with small bulletproof windows offering 180° observation capacity for the crew from inside of the vehicle.
