Barrett Firearms Mfg. Inc. has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army Contracting Command to delivery M107 .50 caliber long-range sniper rifles.
The contract, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Defense, is worth more than $7,9 million.
According to a statement, Barrett Firearms Mfg. Inc., was awarded a $7,9 million contract for the procurement of M107A1 .50 caliber long-range sniper rifles with scope, suppressor and spare kits.
Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Nov. 26, 2023.
The Barrett M107 (Barrett M82, standardized by the U.S. military) .50 caliber sniper rifle is a recoil-operated, semi-automatic anti-materiel sniper system developed by the American Barrett Firearms Manufacturing company.
The M107 anti-material rifle has been adopted by the US Army and is similar to the US Marine Corps Barrett M82A1 .50 caliber sniper system. The M107 enables Army snipers to accurately engage material targets (and personnel in extreme circumsances) out to a distance of 1500 to 2000 meters. The weapon is designed to effectively engage and defeat materiel targets such as aircraft (parked), communications targets, computers, intelligence sites, radar sites, ammunition depots, oil stores as well as lightly armored vehicles.
The M107A1 is optimized for use with a sound suppressor, providing a much-needed signature reduction capability to the warfighter. Lighter, stronger, more accurate, and more capable.
The Barrett M107, like previous members of the M82 line, is also referred to as the Barrett “Light Fifty”.
