The 633 Air Base Wing Public Affairs has announced that Langley Air Force Base in Virginia was hosted F-22 Raptor fighter jets which were evacuated from Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida after Hurricane Michael.
According to the statement, F-22 Raptors stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, that were evacuated to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, ahead of Hurricane Michael arrived at Langley Air Force Base, where they will operate temporarily and continue to train to provide combat air power for America.
Hurricane Michael roared through the Florida Panhandle last week with 155 mph winds and a storm surge that reached 14 feet, killing at least 18 people in four states, destroying homes, and knocking down power lines serving millions of customers.
Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, Florida, took a direct hit and suffered heavy damage.
To date, сrews and emergines services are working throughout Tyndall to clear roads, safe down powered lines and inspect buildings so Team Tyndall may return to collect belongings and inspect damage as soon as possible.
“We understand the wait is frustrating, please know we are working around the clock to return Tyndall personnel as soon as possible,” – said in Tyndall Air Force Base’s report.
The U.S. Air Force leaders are optimistic that Florida’s Tyndall Air Force Base can be rebuilt despite the catastrophic hurricane damage it sustained last week.
Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Kaleth Wright surveyed the damage at Tyndall on Sunday, visiting with the 93 airmen who rode out the storm on base.
“I feel pretty good about the future of Tyndall,” Wright told reporters. “I know it will be a long, hard road but we have a lot of resilient airmen that are already putting their head down and getting after making it a safe place.”
