Spanish Leopardo-2E deployed in Latvia are to be equipped with a new reprogramming system

Star Defense Logistics & Engineering (SDLE) has been awarded, through a framework contract signed with the Spanish Ministry of Defense for 2018-2019 and worth 240.000 euros, the “Development and Supply of a Reprogramming System of Ballistic Calculators for the Leopardo 2E ” for the Spanish Army.

The reprogramming system will provide the Army with the possibility of reprogramming new firing boards for different types of ammunition for the Leopardo 2E tank. This will allow the use of different and new types ammunition.

Being a technologically advanced system, its development puts SDLE at a top level in this field. The securing of this framework contract is the result of the company’s strong commitment to technological innovation. SDLE will be exhibiting at the first edition of the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX) the next 3-5 December.

Six of the 216 Leopardo 2E tanks in Spanish Army’s service are currently deployed in Latvia, as part of the NATO’s ‘Enhanced Forward Presence’ border protection mission, which started in May 2017.

This is the first mission abroad involving the Leopardo 2E tanks, and the same for the Pizarro Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicles (AIFV), whose spare parts are also supplied by SDLE. Through another framework contract signed earlier this year, the Spanish company based in Madrid has been contracted to supply the wheels for the Leopardo 2E, Leopard 2A4 and Pizarro vehicles. This framework contract has a total value of 800.000 euros. In addition, SDLE is responsible for the repair, until 2019 and for 400.000 euros, of the road wheels of these three vehicles.

Besides six Leopardo 2E and fourteen Pizarro vehicles, the Spanish Armed Forces have deployed more than 300 troops, twelve tracked armoured vehicles (known in Spanish as TOA), combat engineer vehicles, an UAV section and another for anti-tank Spike missile in Latvia.
