Ukraine’s defence concern Ukroboronprom has done a large amount of works to restore damaged T-64BM «Bulat» main battle tanks.
The T-64BM «Bulat» tanks suffered heavy damage during the armed conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine from the beginning of March 2014. According to Ukroboronprom’s official, SE “Malyshev Plant”, part of Ukroboronprom, restored 50 units of main battle tanks “Bulat” and transferred those to the Ukrainian Army.
Overall, 64 “Bulats” in 3 years demonstrated their abilities on the battlefield and proved themselves as safe military equipment of a high quality.
The BM Bulat is a modernised version of the T-64B Soviet main battle tank. The upgraded T-64B tank has been designed to meet the technical and combat characteristics of a modern tank. With a crew of three, it has a combat weight of 45t. The Bulat has a maximum speed of 70km/h and range of 385km.
The original T-64B tank was developed in 1976 and its production began in 1980. The upgraded Bulat version of the T-64B was unveiled in 1999. The first upgraded tanks entered service with the Ukrainian Army in 2005.
