Russian armed forces will receive 20 Uran-9 unmanned combat ground vehicles before the end of this year, TASS reported.
“Until the end of this year, five sets of the Uran-9 multipurpose combat robotic complex will be delivered to the troops,” a source told the agency. “Each set includes four combat vehicles configured for reconnaissance or fire support, a mobile command vehicle and two transporters.”
The Uran-9 is a tracked unmanned combat ground vehicle (UCGV) developed and produced by Rostec State Corporation. It is armed with a 30 mm 2A72 automatic cannon, a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun and multiple 9M120 Ataka anti-tank guided missiles. The vehicle also carries a suite of optics and targeting systems, including thermal imaging and a laser designator.
The Uran-9 is intended for local military and counter-terror operations, including urban environments. Its use should help reduce personnel casualties.
In 2016, Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec State Corporation) began promoting the Uran-9 on the international market.
