Bell Textron, a major American aerospace manufacturer, has confirmed its readiness to supply its AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom helicopters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Militarnyi reported. The development follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Washington between representatives of Bell Textron and the Ukrainian government, outlining prospects for industrial cooperation and potential aircraft deliveries. “We are proud to announce this agreement, and the potential to supply these incredible aircraft to Ukraine,” said Jeffrey Schloesser, senior vice president for Strategic Pursuits at Bell. “This initiative has been in development for some time, and we look forward to bringing it to completion.” The AH-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom are two of Bell’s most advanced rotary-wing platforms. They share about 85 percent of their components, including the tail boom, engines, rotor system, transmission, avionics architecture, software, flight controls, and cockpit displays. This high degree of commonality simplifies logistics, maintenance, and training, while improving operational readiness for forces operating both aircraft. As noted by the company, the Viper attack helicopter and Venom utility helicopter were designed to work in tandem, providing frontline units with a flexible combination of offensive and transport capabilities. The AH-1Z offers precision firepower and enhanced survivability, while the UH-1Y delivers troop transport, medical evacuation, and general support functions. “We are confident that H-1s can play a pivotal role in further building defense capabilities in Ukraine, providing a much-needed upgrade while strengthening current Ukrainian air support,” Schloesser added. According to the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, the signed memorandum establishes a framework for creating production and maintenance facilities within Ukraine. These facilities are expected to support the assembly and servicing of Bell’s H-1 family helicopters, contributing to the country’s industrial development and defense autonomy. In a statement, Ukrainian officials said the cooperation will promote the advancement of high-tech mechanical engineering and reinforce the nation’s industrial capacity. The initiative also reflects Ukraine’s growing ties with leading U.S. defense companies and its ongoing effort to modernize its military aviation fleet amid continued conflict. The agreement with Bell Textron could mark a new stage in U.S.-Ukrainian defense-industrial collaboration. While the exact timeline and number of helicopters to be supplied have not been disclosed, the partnership aligns with Kyiv’s broader strategy of integrating NATO-compatible systems and building local production capabilities for long-term sustainability. Bell’s H-1 program, developed for the U.S. Marine Corps, has proven combat performance and global export success. The AH-1Z and UH-1Y have been deployed in multiple international operations and are recognized for their reliability and mission adaptability. If realized, the cooperation could provide Ukraine with a modernized rotary-wing fleet capable of operating in complex combat environments.
