Ukrainian forces are increasingly employing German-made HX-2 one-way strike drones along multiple frontline sectors, according to reporting by Ukrainian defense outlet Militarnyi.
Militarnyi reported that HX-2 drones developed by German defense technology company Helsing are now being used on several operational axes to conduct strikes inside Russian-controlled rear zones. According to the outlet, the drones are being employed against support elements rather than exclusively frontline combat formations.
Russian military personnel have also acknowledged the strikes on social media. Russian servicemen wrote that the drones are “hitting repair brigades and road network installation crews in the relative rear,” while posting images showing debris identified as remnants of HX-2 drones that reached their positions.
The increased presence of drone debris imagery published by Russian sources has provided additional visual confirmation of the system’s operational deployment. Photographs shared online reportedly show distinctive structural components consistent with the HX-2 platform.
The HX-2 drone was publicly introduced at the end of 2024 as a new one-way attack unmanned aerial system designed for precision strikes against armored vehicles, artillery systems, and military infrastructure, including engineering positions. The platform features an X-shaped wing configuration and tail assembly intended to enhance stability and maneuverability during terminal attack phases.
According to previously disclosed company information cited by Militarnyi, Helsing is contracted to manufacture up to 6,000 HX-2 strike drones for Ukraine, indicating planned large-scale deployment of the system.
The HX-2 weighs approximately 12 kilograms and is powered by four electric motors mounted in the rear section of the aircraft. The drone can reach a maximum speed of up to 220 kilometers per hour and has a reported operational range of up to 100 kilometers.
Company data indicates the drone carries a warhead weighing several kilograms, consistent with a design optimized for precision engagement of tactical targets rather than large-area destruction. One-way attack drones function by flying toward pre-programmed coordinates or guided targets and detonating upon impact.
