First contracts signed for Ukraine’s new armored vehicle

The Ukrainian-made new Inguar-3 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle has successfully completed combat testing and secured its first contracts.

Developed by Kyiv-based Inguar Defence, the vehicle has been built entirely from scratch, avoiding the use of commercially available components, and is designed to meet NATO-level protection standards.

The milestone follows the prototype’s evaluations and approval for operation by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense in 2023. The Inguar-3 has been rigorously tested over 10,000 kilometers under extreme conditions, a process that demonstrated its resilience and combat readiness.

“2024 has been a year of rigorous testing for our company,” said Artem Yushchuk, CEO and co-founder of Inguar Defence. “We’ve approached this responsibly, and overall, the vehicle has been subjected to about 10,000 kilometers of extreme testing.”

The Inguar-3 boasts protection levels compliant with STANAG 4569 Level 3a/3b, meaning the vehicle can withstand armor-piercing rounds of 7.62×51mm caliber and shrapnel from 155mm artillery shells detonated at a distance of 60 meters. This level of protection ensures the safety of its occupants in both high-threat and conventional battlefield scenarios.

While the completion of combat tests and initial contracts marks a significant milestone for Inguar Defence, Yushchuk emphasized the challenges of competing in an aggressive market. “We are capable of producing far more. However, if we do not secure contracts at least every two months, we simply won’t survive as a company,” he said.

Inguar Defence faces stiff competition from other armored vehicle manufacturers in Ukraine, which have increased production amid the ongoing conflict. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to innovation and quality in the defense sector.

The Inguar-3’s approval and contract acquisition come at a critical time for Ukraine, as its armed forces continue to modernize and enhance their capabilities amid ongoing conflict. Vehicles like the Inguar-3 provide a critical combination of mobility and survivability, ensuring that personnel can operate effectively in high-risk environments.
