Belarus develops upgrade package for T-72 tanks

Belarus’s “140 repair plant” has developed an upgrade package for the main battle tanks (MBTs). The new upgraded T-72BME main battle tank was displayed the first during the 8th International Exhibition of Arms and Military Equipment «MILEX-2017».

The T-72BME is one of the more advanced T-72 variants featuring the «ECCA-72U» gunner’s sighting system. The tank can hit targets at a distance of 5-7 km, and the detection range is 10 km.

Engine power increased by 60 h.p. and now he gives out 840 h.p.. The running gear of the machine was significantly strengthened and improved in the course of modernization.

On board the tank is a modern radio station Barret-2082 of Australian production.

The new versions of the T-72BME  featured a number of survivability upgrades over existing B models. A new Contact-1 explosive reactive armour (ERA) layout fixes some of the vulnerabilities in the existing T-72 design.
