Azerbaijan takes delivery of new batch of Polonez precision missile systems

Azerbaijan took delivery of the new batch of Polonez precision surface-to-surface missile systems from Belarus.

On 27 September, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced that In accordance with the intergovernmental agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Belarus, the new batch of 301-mm Polonez precision surface-to-surface missile systems was delivered to Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan has received the first batch of Polonez systems this summer.

The Polonez is a multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) that is armed with eight ready-to-launch 301-mm missiles in two containerised pods or two 750-mm guided missiles. The missile system has a firing range of 50-300 km and a combat readiness time of 10 minutes. A division of Polonez MRLs has an ammunition load of 144 301-mm rockets.

According to the army-technology.com, the new Belarusian multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) developed by state-owned Foreign Trade Unitary Enterprise (SFTUE) BelSpetsVneshTechnika (BSVT). It is intended to replace the ageing Uragan and Smerch artillery rocket systems.

The Polonez MRLS can engage enemy personnel located in the open and in shelters, as well as unarmoured and armoured combat vehicles, special vehicles, command posts, artillery units, missile systems in addition to air defense missile systems and aircraft stationed at airfields.
