RENK Group AG has secured new defense contracts worth more than €45 million ($53 million) to supply transmission systems for several core armored vehicles operated by Germany’s armed forces, reinforcing the role of European industry in NATO’s ongoing force expansion and readiness efforts.
According to a press release from the company, RENK will deliver HSWL 256, HSWL 354, and AGB 300 transmissions for the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, the Büffel armored recovery vehicle, and the Boxer armored transport vehicle. All three platforms are widely used by the Bundeswehr and form the backbone of Germany’s land forces.
“Augsburg, December 16, 2025 – RENK Group AG, a leading supplier of propulsion solutions for the military sector, has received further orders to supply HSWL 256, HSWL 354 and AGB 300 transmissions,” the company said. “These transmissions will be used in the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, the Büffel armored recovery vehicle, and the Boxer armored transport vehicle. The order has a total value of over EUR 45 million.”
The company said the contracts are part of the Bundeswehr’s broader expansion and modernization program, which has accelerated in response to new NATO capability requirements and the evolving security environment in Europe. The transmissions covered by the order will be manufactured at RENK’s headquarters in Augsburg, maintaining domestic production for critical military components.
In a statement, Michael Masur, CEO Vehicle Mobility Solutions at RENK GmbH, linked the order directly to alliance demands and the growing need for reliable armored vehicle platforms.

The Puma infantry fighting vehicle is Germany’s primary tracked IFV, designed to operate alongside main battle tanks in high-intensity combat. The Büffel armored recovery vehicle supports heavy units by conducting battlefield recovery and repair operations under fire. The Boxer armored transport vehicle, a modular wheeled platform developed through a multinational European program, is used in a wide range of roles, including troop transport, command and control, and specialized mission variants.
RENK’s transmission systems are a critical element of these platforms, directly affecting mobility, reliability, and sustainment during prolonged operations. While less visible than weapons or sensors, propulsion components determine whether armored units can maneuver effectively across difficult terrain and remain operational during sustained deployments.
The company said the latest order makes a “significant contribution” to increasing the operational capability of Germany’s armed forces, though it did not provide detailed delivery schedules or the number of transmissions included in the contract.
Germany has increased defense spending and procurement in recent years as part of its commitments to NATO and its efforts to rebuild readiness levels after decades of underinvestment. Ground forces modernization, including tracked and wheeled armored vehicles, remains a central pillar of that effort.
