The Royal Thai Army has launched a military operation to reclaim Thai sovereign territory in Sa Kaeo Province, following reports of increased Cambodian troop movements and heavy weapons deployments along the border.
The operation was carried out by the Burapha Task Force under the First Army Region Command.
According to a report from the Royal Thai Army’s First Region Operations Center, Cambodia had placed its border forces on high alert and conducted large-scale movements of troops and equipment, including heavy weapons, in the Sa Kaeo border area. Thai authorities also reported that Cambodian forces had been closely monitoring Thai activity along the frontier.
The Thai military said that “throughout this morning, reports confirmed that Cambodian troops had moved closer to the border, posing a threat to Thai sovereignty and endangering the lives of local civilians.” The First Army Region determined that this behavior violated the peace agreement previously signed between the two countries.
In response, the Thai Army initiated a military operation aimed at restoring control over the Thai border area. The Burapha Task Force was ordered to conduct a tactical operation in Sa Kaeo Province to push back Cambodian troops and reassert control.
Footage shared by Thai military sources show an F-16 fighter jet conducting a precision strike on a compound believed to be a Cambodian military position. The Royal Thai Air Force reportedly targeted the site in the Chan O An Ma area after confirming that Cambodian troops were using the building to store heavy weapons for future attacks on civilian areas deeper inside Thailand.
A statement from Army Military Force, a pro-Thai defense media outlet, said: “The F-16 carried out a strike on the casino compound in Chan O An Ma after Thai forces verified that it was being used as a military base by Cambodian troops preparing to launch attacks against Thai civilian targets.”
The operation comes amid heightened tensions following earlier Cambodian accusations that Thai forces had opened fire on Cambodian personnel. The two sides had previously signed a peace agreement in October, but recent developments suggest that the agreement may be unraveling.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense had stated earlier that “Thai troops opened fire on Cambodian servicemen,” although no official confirmation from the Thai side was given at the time. Both countries have long maintained sensitive military positions in contested areas near the border, and the situation in Sa Kaeo reflects growing instability.
At present, the Thai Army has not released full casualty figures or further operational details. The First Army Region has indicated that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
