Moldova receives Canadian-made Senator armored vehicles

In a move aimed at strengthening Moldova’s internal security capabilities, Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel has delivered its Senator special-purpose vehicles to the Moldovan police.

The delivery was carried out under a European Union-funded initiative designed to bolster Moldova’s law enforcement as part of broader EU support for the country’s security sector.

The EU in the Republic of Moldova announced on Friday that: “We continue our support of the Moldovan Police with the provision of two specialized vehicles. Thirty officers of the ‘Fulger’ unit learned to operate an assault bridge system to intervene in crisis situations. Strengthening Moldova’s security is EU Foreign Policy in action.”

This marks the first delivery of Senator vehicles to Moldova. The Roshel Senator, based on the Ford F-550 chassis, is the company’s flagship model. Designed for a variety of mission profiles, the vehicle provides CEN B7 armor protection capable of withstanding small arms fire and explosions. The platform can carry up to ten personnel and is configurable for law enforcement, border security, and military use.

Roshel’s rapid expansion in the global defense market has accelerated since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The company has supplied over 1,800 Senator vehicles to Ukraine, where they have become a key asset for the Armed Forces and Border Guard Service.

Moldova’s acquisition of the armored vehicles comes as the country faces mounting regional security concerns stemming from the war in neighboring Ukraine and Russian hybrid threats to its stability. The EU’s funding of the procurement underscores Brussels’ commitment to supporting Moldova as it navigates these challenges.

The EU mission in Moldova is part of a broader strategy to promote stability and resilience in Eastern Europe, with a focus on countering external threats and strengthening domestic security institutions.
