An American defense contractor Textron Systems unveiled at the 2019 AUSA Global Force Symposium a new unmanned all-terrain transport system called the Grizzly.
According to a news release put out by Textron Systems, Grizzly is a mid-sized high torque electric drive diesel hybrid “pack-bot” designed to operate in the toughest of terrains while offering unprecedented range, reliability and mobility.
The tracked unmanned vehicle, which is powered with a diesel-electric hybrid motor, has won the coveted down selection for the Army’s Squad Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMET) program.
Troops will be able to operate these unmanned ground vehicle using controls on the vehicle itself or a handheld controller.
The portable system will also have a video screen linked to cameras on the Grizzly to allow for remote operation. A “follow-me” functionality, in which the vehicle will keep a set distance between it and the control system at all times, is also a requirement.
The new all-terrain transport system was designed by the Howe & Howe Technologies, Inc., which is part of Textron Systems.
