Russian-produced attack helicopters spotted at Egypt’s airbase

Recently captured commercial satellite imagery shows that Egypt has received a big batch of newest Russian-produced Ka-52 attack helicopters.

Recently analysed Google Earth satellite imagery shows 12 recently received Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters of the Egyptian Air Force at the at Kattamia Air Base.

The Ka-52 Alligator is a next-generation reconnaissance and combat helicopter designed to destroy tanks, armoured and non-armoured ground targets, and enemy troops and helicopters both on the front line and in tactical reserves. The helicopter can operate around the clock and in all weathers.

The modern attack helicopter is developed by Kamov Design Bureau, a subsidiary of Rostec’s Russian Helicopters.

The Ka-52 can provide target acquisition and designation for helicopter teams and ground troop command and control centres. It can also provide fire support for troop landings, fly routine patrols and escort military convoys.

Earlier, the Russian Helicopters general manager Andrei Boginsky confirmed that first 15 Ka-52 attack helicopter will be delivered to Egypt by 2017, with another 31 shipping over the next two years.

In mid-2017 the Egyptian military accepted the first three of 46 Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters, which were delivered from the Progress plant in the Primorsk region of Russia.
