New Korsar UAV to take part in Russia’s Victory Day parade for the first time

The new Russian Korsar tactical surveillance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) will take part in the Victory Day military parade at Red Square in Moscow on May 9.

Russia’s advanced weaponry will be demonstrated for the first time at Moscow’s military parade to mark the 73th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu said on Wednesday.

During military parade for the first time will unveil the new Korsar tactical surveillance unmanned aerial vehicles developed by the Russian research and development company Lutch, part of JSC Vega Radio Engineering Corporation.

The Korsar (Corsair) is a designed for reconnaissance, surveillance, target acquisition and battle damage assessment. The UAV can operate up to 100 km from its brigade tactical operations center, and recognize tactical vehicles up to 2,000 m above the ground at more than 2.0 km slant range.

The development of this complex of UAVs was of a closed nature. For the first time, the information that one of the enterprises of the Vega concern received a corresponding contract from the Russian Defense Ministry appeared in the Russian media in 2013. Representatives of the concern then refused to confirm or deny the existence of such work.

The Korsar unmanned aircraft system is of a high-wing, constant chord pusher configuration with a twin-tailboom empennage and an inverted v-tail and looks like a AAI RQ-7 Shadow.

The new unmanned aerial vehicle scheduled to enter serial production and Russian service later this year.
