Defexpo 2018: Mahindra Defence unveils new Light Bullet Proof Vehicle

The Mahindra Defence specialises in manufacturing heavy-duty armoured vehicles unveiled it’s new Light Bullet Proof Vehicle, at the Defexpo India 2018 exhibition in Chennai, India.

Designed by the Mahindra Defence Systems Limited the Light Bullet Proof Vehicle (LBPV) has a crew of two – a driver and commander – with additional space in the rear for two or four other personnel. The vehicle is designed to used by Indian Defence and Para Military forces.

According to the company, the new vehicle can be easily re-configured for different mission due to the modular interior layout.

During the exhibition was showcased the variant equipped with GUARDIAN 2.0 Remote Weapons System (RWS), armed with a12.7 mm machine gun, developed by ESCRIBANO Mechanical and Engineering. The system is stabilized and can operate by day and by night. Operational functions include surveillance, target identifi cation and tracking. Ballistic calculations for shooting are programmed into the main computer unit, allowing improved shooting accuracy. GUARDIAN provides defense capabilities over short and medium ranges with high fi ring accuracy and it is a cost-eff ective solution for defense against asymmetric threats.

The ballistic protection level of the new vehicle can be configured to the end user’s requirements but according to Mahindra, this can be to STANAG Level II.

The LBPV’s hull has a length of 3.200 m, a width of 2.200 m, a height of 2.300 m. It has a road speed of up to 110 km/h.
