Russia sends new Typhoon-K armoured vehicles to Syria for testing

The new Russian K-53949 armoured personnel carrier was spotted in Syria, a photo of a new vehicle was published by Dmitrii Peimenov at lostarmour.info website.

Russia uses the conflict in Syria for ultimate testing ground for Russian troops, equipment and combat capabilities. The new K-53949 armoured personnel carrier developed by Remdizel has been no exception.

The K-53949, known as the Typhoon-K, is a 4×4 mine-protected armoured vehicle designed for safely transport troops and military cargoes in mine-inflated zones.  The vehicle is a special-purpose mine-resistant armoured wheeled vehicle with a combat weight of 15 tons. The vehicle accommodates two crew members and eight fully equipped troops. It’s 350 hp engine producing a maximum road speed of 105 km/h. The hull features four side doors and a rear door.

The vehicle protects the occupants from 14.5mm-calibre ammunition, armour-piercing rounds and incendiary rounds. It can withstand the impact of 8kg TNT explosion under the floor and 10kg TNT explosion under the wheels. The vehicle offers STANAG 4569 level III protection against anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, as well as improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

In addition to the standard version, was designed a prototype of an armoured ambulance version for the evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield. The new armoured ambulance version of the Typhoon-K using the same chassis as the K-53949 armoured personnel carrier.
