An Israel-made unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operated by the Indian Southern Naval Command in Kochi crashed on Tuesday, 21 November.
The IAI Searcher reconnaissance UAV which was on a routine surveillance sortie, crashed around 10.25 a.m. shortly after take off from the North of Naval airfield at Wellington Island, said the Indian Defence spokesperson.

A board of inquiry is being constituted to investigate the cause of the accident.
The Searcher is a multi mission tactical UAV system used for surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition, artillery adjustment and damage assessment. It can remain airborne for 16 hours and has a maximum range of 150 kilometers at the relatively high altitude of 18,500 feet, making it especially suitable for missions over the Himalayas.
