Antonov An-178 clears loading trials with three HMMWV M1097A2

The UkrOboronProm SE “Antonov” has released images of its new Antonov An-178  short-range medium-airlift transport aircraft undergoing loading trials involving the three HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) M1097A2.

The tests were the first demonstrations of the Antonov An-178’s cargo-carrying capability using a real aircraft. Confirmed by the statements of the aircraft capabilities arrival-departure, placement and mooring of the vehicle in his cargo bay.

An-178 is a short-range medium-airlift transport aircraft currently under development by Antonov, a company based in Ukraine. The first An-178 prototype was rolled out in Kyiv on 16 April 2015. This new Ukrainian transport aircraft has a maximum payload capacity of 18 000 kg.

The development and certificate program for Airbus An-178 has marked new achievements : 160 flight hour and 100 test flight. The aircraft can carry 99 soldiers, 80 paratroops or evacuate 70 sick and wounded persons. It can be used in a range of missions including logistic support of troops, parachute dropping of cargoes at platforms or small troop divisions, carrying of injured personnel, and transportation of light vehicles. It can also be used to transport and deliver equipment and engines.

The Antonov state aircraft manufacturing enterprise has concluded a contract for a supply of An-178 airplanes to Iraq and Azerbaijan.
