Motorola Solutions has completed its acquisition of Los Angeles-based Silvus Technologies, a company known for developing advanced mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) systems used by defense and public safety agencies across the globe. According to a press release from Motorola Solutions, the acquisition will integrate Silvus’ low-latency, infrastructure-independent communications systems into Motorola’s existing suite of land mobile radio and video solutions. Silvus’ MANET systems are designed to create highly scalable, self-healing mesh networks that maintain secure connectivity for voice, video, and data across contested and infrastructure-degraded environments. “Silvus’ advanced solutions for drone and unmanned systems are trusted in the world's most demanding defense environments, and offer vital applications for border security and public safety,” said Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions. “Their capabilities are an excellent complement to our land mobile radio and video technologies, and we look forward to bringing them to more customers around the world.” The acquisition comes as defense and law enforcement agencies increasingly rely on autonomous platforms—including drones, robots, and vehicles—to operate at greater distances from threats. Silvus' technology allows these systems to function with extremely low latency, enabling real-time control and data transfer under battlefield conditions. Silvus Technologies, which was founded by CEO Babak Daneshrad, PhD, has built a customer base that spans defense organizations, intelligence agencies, unmanned systems manufacturers, and police forces globally. The company's flagship StreamCaster radios have been fielded in a wide range of operations requiring high-bandwidth, mobile, and encrypted networking. I am incredibly optimistic about the future we have with Motorola Solutions.” The integration is expected to accelerate Motorola’s ability to deliver secure networking solutions to governments and public safety agencies across its existing footprint, which includes long-standing relationships with U.S. and allied government customers. TJC, which had previously backed Silvus Technologies, expressed confidence in the transition. “They’ve built an exceptional company serving a critical need, and we are excited to watch their next successful chapter unfold with Motorola Solutions as a global leader in safety and security,” said Erik Fagan, Partner and Head of Industrial Technology at TJC. Silvus’ systems have been used extensively in scenarios where traditional communication infrastructure is unavailable or compromised. Their technology supports high-throughput connectivity for streaming video, tactical sensor data, and multi-domain operations where dynamic mobility is essential. Motorola Solutions says it plans to leverage Silvus’ platform to expand its offering to customers operating in demanding conditions—ranging from frontline military units and special operations teams to disaster response personnel and border enforcement units.
