French elite forces receive first PEGASE vehicles

French defense firm Arquus has begun delivering its new-generation light tactical vehicle, the PEGASE, to units including the 11th Parachute Brigade.

In a statement posted September 8, Arquus said the vehicle represents a “major capability leap” for French forces. The company emphasized that the PEGASE was designed to meet the demands of elite units operating in harsh environments, combining low-signature mobility, off-road performance, and integrated firepower.

“The first PEGASE vehicles are now entering service with frontline units, including the 11th Parachute Brigade,” Arquus said. “We are proud to support this next step in capability for French forces.”

The PEGASE—short for Véhicule Léger des Forces Spéciales, or Light Vehicle for Special Forces—is a compact, rugged platform tailored for reconnaissance, fire support, and tactical transport roles. The vehicle is part of a 206-unit procurement plan set to run through 2030.

The French military has not released detailed specifications, but the vehicle is reported to include modular options for weapon systems, communications, and protection packages. It is also engineered to reduce thermal and acoustic signatures, an essential feature for special operations missions.

Arquus is also a key industry partner in the French Army’s SCORPION modernization effort, which includes development of next-generation ground systems and digital battlefield networks. The company previously delivered vehicles such as the Sherpa and VLRA to French and allied forces.
