U.S. startup develops ground-based FPV-inspired drone

American drone startup Liminal Industries has announced the launch of its DUEL-V ground system—a compact, expendable, and highly mobile platform designed to bring the disruptive logic of FPV drones to the ground domain.

According to a press release from the U.S.-based company on October 14, the new Dynamic Unmanned Expendable Light Vehicle, or DUEL-V, is engineered for mass deployment in contested environments, combining agility with a design tailored for the realities of modern, distributed warfare.

“DUEL-V is built for rapid scale and radical performance,” said Bradley Balzer, CEO and founder of Liminal Industries. “It’s the FPV drone of the ground. Fast, expendable, and built for the new age of distributed warfare.”

The vehicle features a dual-orientation body architecture that enables it to operate even when flipped over, ensuring mobility and control in rough or unpredictable terrain. This “flip-agnostic” capability is designed to minimize failure points and keep the vehicle functional after collisions or rollovers—scenarios that often render other small unmanned systems inoperable.

Liminal describes DUEL-V as part of a new “chaos class” of ground vehicles that value speed, simplicity, and tactical expendability over the heavier, legacy ground platforms common in many militaries. Drawing from FPV drone design logic, DUEL-V is optimized for rapid manufacture and deployment at scale.

The company says the new system is intended to operate where conventional vehicles cannot—either due to terrain, risk of loss, or cost constraints. In doing so, DUEL-V aims to offer a flexible tool for frontline forces seeking to outmaneuver adversaries using swarming or low-cost saturation tactics.

The company has not disclosed details on payload configurations, autonomy level. They also did not specify whether the new drone can operate under active electronic warfare conditions.

In a statement, the company said it will provide further details on the DUEL-V platform’s roadmap in the coming months.
