The People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) has conducted “Blue Shield-2017” exercise with Russian-made S-300 surface-to-air missile systems in the desert area of the northwest China in early April, 2017.
Six ground air-defense brigades and regiments from the air forces under three PLA Theater Commands participated in the ten-day-long exercise. The “Blue Shield” exercise is one of the four key training brands of the PLA Air Force, along with “Red Sword”, “Golden Helmet” and “Golden Dart”.
The crews of Chinese S-300PMU1 and S-300PMU2 air defense systems shot down simulated target launched by an imaginary enemy during an air defense drill in the desert area of the northwest China.
The S-300 is a series of initially Soviet and later Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, based on the initial S-300P version. Now Chinese Defence Forces have 32 divisions S-300PMU, 64 divisions S-300PMU1 and 64 divisions S-300PMU2. Also, China is building its own version of the S-300PMU-1, called HQ-10.
