  • MKU signed a $75 million contract to supply 29,762 Netro NW 3000 night vision weapon sights to the Indian Army.

India’s MKU Limited has signed a ₹660 crore ($75 million) contract with the Indian Army for the supply of nearly 30,000 night vision weapon sights, in what the company describes as one of the largest electro-optics deals in the country’s defense sector to date.

According to MKU, the agreement covers 29,762 Netro NW 3000 night vision weapon sights, designed and manufactured under India’s IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category. The deal was finalized under the emergency powers of the Raksha Mantri (Defense Minister), reflecting the Indian Army’s operational priority for enhanced night-fighting capability.

In a company statement, MKU said the Netro NW 3000 had undergone “rigorous evaluation and extensive field trials,” and is engineered to integrate with standard assault rifles, offering soldiers improved target acquisition and situational awareness in low-light conditions.

The contract was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, IAS, and Dr. Ajay Kumar, IAS, representing the Ministry of Defence.

“This contract reflects the Indian Army’s continued trust in MKU’s R&D capability and indigenous manufacturing excellence,” said Neeraj Gupta, Managing Director at MKU. “Over the years, MKU has emerged as a strong electro-optics company, built on a unique combination of deep defence domain understanding and a culture of innovation that allows us to precisely address the evolving operational needs of modern soldiers.”

The Netro NW 3000 is part of MKU’s Netro Optronics division, which focuses on developing electro-optic solutions including night vision, thermal imaging, and target acquisition technologies. The company emphasized that the contract aligns with the Indian government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) and Make in India policies, which aim to strengthen domestic defense manufacturing.

This latest award follows a separate contract won by MKU in July 2025, involving the supply of 5,642 thermal imaging weapon sights for light machine guns. That order was approved under the powers of the Vice Chief of Army Staff. Together, the two contracts demonstrate the Indian Army’s ongoing procurement push to modernize infantry optics and small arms support equipment.

MKU said the Netro NW 3000 system is intended to empower frontline soldiers with “clarity, precision, and confidence during nighttime operations,” contributing directly to India’s warfighting readiness across varied terrains and threat environments.
