First Thai F-5ST Super Tiger fighter jet rolls out

The first of fourteen F-5ST Super Tiger powerful tactical fighter armed with next-generation operational features that equal and even exceed those of today’s most advanced combat aircraft for the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) was rolled.

According to RTAF’s statement, the prototype of the  F-5ST Super Tiger fighter jets, which has been modified by Elbit Systems with new software and hardware was rolled out during a special ceremony.

Elbit Systems F-5 upgrade converts the TIGER into a powerful platform with GEN 4 capabilities. Equipped with modern and powerful radar, a sophisticated EW suite, glass cockpit, high accuracy Air-Ground capabilities, advanced Air-Air missiles and Elbit Systems’ Helmet Mounted Display, the upgraded F-5 can successfully compete with other modern and advanced platforms.

The israeldefense.co.il reported that following the upgrade, the F-5ST is now a 4th-generation fighter jet equipped with advanced operational capabilities such as a modern and powerful radar, a sophisticated EW suite, glass cockpit, high accuracy air-to-ground capabilities, advanced IRIS-T air-to-air missiles, and Elbit Systems’ Helmet Mounted Display.

Elbit’s contract with the Thai government, signed in August 2017, is worth $96 million. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is also involved in the project as a subcontractor.
