VIDEO: Failed launch of Patriot PAC-2 missiles in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia said its air defences destroyed seven ballistic missiles late Sunday, fired from neighboring Yemen and targeting at least four Saudi cities including the capital, Riyadh.

The Saudi-owned Al Arabiya news website quoted Col. Turki al-Maliki, a military spokesman, as saying three of the Burkan 2-H short-range ballistic missiles were directed at Riyadh and the others were fired toward the southwestern cities of Khamis Mushait, Najran and Jazan, near the Yemen border.

The ballistic missiles were reportedly intercepted by Saudi Patriot surface-to-air missiles but at least two of them failed.

According to the SURA‏, Saudi Arabian patriot missiles failure and hitting capital city of Riyadh after a failed attempt at intercepting a Yemeni ballistic missile. 

“The mainstay of the Saudi Arabian air defense is American Patriot defense batteries and today we saw the catastrophic failure of one of the missiles, leading to both a failed interception of a ballistic missile as well as the patriot missile itself attacking the capital” said in news by the SURA.‏

Saudi Health Authorities have transported over 17 people injured in the malfunction and ballistic missile attack. Deaths have so far not been reported or released by the Health Authorities.
