Venezuelan Army has disclosed some details of its AMX-30V MBT upgrade program.

The tanks will eceive  a new fire-control system comprising a main firing system , ballistic computer, stabilization and two computers, one for the head of the tank and one for the gunner.

In addition, they will be fitted with a digital meteorological mast, daytime and thermal cameras for the driver, a unit of digital stabilization, GPS / Glonass, an auxiliary generator seven kilowatts receiver and a new track system, and replacement of the American 650hp engine with a new 750hp type.

The AMX-30 is a main battle tank designed by GIAT and first delivered to the French Army in 1966. The first five tanks were issued to the 501st Régiment de Chars de Combat (Tank Regiment) in August of that year.

Venezuelan army has left 80 AMX-30V tanks.
