Rheinmetall, the German defense technology group, has secured a contract with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense to supply 155mm artillery propellant charge modules.
The order, valued at approximately €9 million ($9,4 million), was confirmed in the fourth quarter of 2024 and includes tens of thousands of propellant charge modules of various types. Delivery is scheduled for January 2025.
The modular propellant charges are critical components in modern artillery, allowing operators to adjust projectile ranges by varying the charges used. Rheinmetall is recognized as a global leader in the production of large-caliber ammunition and propellant systems, making this contract a pivotal addition to Ukraine’s defense capabilities as it continues to counter Russian aggression.
Rheinmetall has emerged as a key defense industry partner for Ukraine, providing extensive deliveries and support services during the ongoing conflict. At the “Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024” held in Berlin, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with Ukraine to deepen strategic cooperation. The agreement outlines plans to enhance collaboration between Rheinmetall and Ukraine’s defense sector, with a focus on expanding local manufacturing capabilities.
Among the projects in development are the production of artillery ammunition and the potential delivery and domestic production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles. These initiatives aim to strengthen Ukraine’s defense infrastructure by fostering self-reliance and modernizing its military assets.
The partnership between Rheinmetall and Ukraine highlights the importance of international defense collaboration in supporting Ukraine’s military needs.
