The U.S. Army Contracting Command-New Jersey, on behalf of PM Soldier Weapons, intends to award a sole source contract for the M24 sniper weapon systems.

On Apr. 29,  the Department of the Army posted a notice on the U.S. government’s main contracting website, that it intends to solicit, negotiate and award a sole source contract to Remington Arms, for supply M24A2 Sniper Weapon Systems and spare parts and tools.

The M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) is the military and police version of the Remington Model 700 rifle, M24 being the model name assigned by the United States Army after adoption as their standard sniper rifle in 1988.

Remington has developed an improved version of the M24 rifle, known as the M24A2. The A2 model features a detachable 5-round magazine, top-mounted and adjustable side-mounted Picatinny rails, barrel modifications designed to accommodate a sound suppressor, and an improved H-S Precision PST-25 stock with adjustable cheek height and length of pull. Existing M24s can also be converted into M24A2s, which replaces the stock and adds the new detachable magazine feed. The conversion requires a re-barreling of the weapon so it can take the OPS silencer.

Also in a notice added that the intended contract will provide the Remington M24 Sniper Weapon to enhance existing United States Air Force inventory and be serviced with current inventory spare parts.

The Solicitation release is expected to be 15 May 2019.
