Two US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets collided and crashed

The U.S. Coast Guard and a Good Samaritan fishing vessel crew rescued four survivors Thursday morning following an “in-air mishap” involving two F/A-18F Super Hornets off the coast of North Carolina.

Officials said the incident happened about 25 miles east of the Oregon Inlet, in Nags Head, at about 10:30 a.m. The crew of the commercial fishing vessel Tammy recovered the four survivors.

An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City took the airmen to a hospital in Norfolk.

The jets were from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA)211 at Naval Air Station Oceana.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

No additional information was immediately available.
