Turkey to sell four Ada class corvettes for Pakistan Navy

In a series of posts on Twitter on 5 July, Minister of National Defence of the Republic of Turkey Nurettin Canikli said that the has Turkey won a tender to build 4 corvettes for Pakistan Navy.

According to the statement, this contract is the largest such award so far received by Turkey defence industry.

“This will be the largest single export in the history of Turkish defense industry,” said Nurettin Canikli.

The agreement is a milestone for Turkish defense industry and has proven its adequacy, the minister noted.

Turkey’s STM signed a letter of intent in May 2017 to manufacture four Ada class  (also known as the MILGEM project) corvettes for Pakistan, and the contract was signed in November. Two of the ships will be manufacturered at Karachi Shipyard and two others in Istanbul, Canikli said.

STM CEO Davut Yilma said in May 2017 that the cost will be $250 million per ship.
