Telephonics Corp contracted for MQ-8B Fire Scout radars

Telephonics Corporation has received a contract for the procurement of MQ-8B Fire Scout radars for the U.S. Navy. 

The contract, announced by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) on 21 September, provides for the procurement of AN/ZPY-4 Radar supplies for the MQ-8B Fire Scout Unmanned Air System for the U.S. Navy.

The deal is worth more than $23,5 million and is expected that work to be completed in September 2019.

Also noted that the maximum quantities that can be procured under this contract include a quantity of 14 complete AN/ZPY-4 Radar sets; 17 antenna pedestals; 17 receiver transmitters; 20 signal processors; 48 waveguide assemblies; 15 harness assemblies; 15 radio frequency (RF) cable assemblies (W110); 15 RF cable assemblies (W111); 15 RF cable assemblies (W112); 19 Radar Command and Control Systems.

The AN/ZPY-4 radar systems are designed for maritime surveillance, tracking and classifying targets of interest in a wide range of applications including naval aviation, maritime police, border patrol as well as environmental and fisheries protection.

The systems are capable of tracking multiple targets and can be found on fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft as well as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), enhancing situational awareness. Modes include Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), weather detection and avoidance as well as Search and Rescue Transponder (SART) beacon detection.

The Telephonics Corp. radar, an AN/ZPY-4(V)1, is capable of tracking multiple targets using inverse synthetic aperture radar, synthetic aperture radar, weather detection and avoidance and search-and-rescue transponder beacon detection.
