Romania, Rheinmetall reportedly close to signing contract to procure Agilis armored vehicles

Romania media reported on 12 November that German company Rheinmetall it is close to signing a contract with Romania to jointly develop and supply the new Agilis 8×8 armored vehicle.

According to the hotnews.ro, Rheinmetall expects to sign with the Romanian Ministry of Economy the financing agreement for the development phase for the Agilis 8×8 armored vehicle that will be produced at the facility of the auto-mechanical plant Moreni.

Romanian Military Vehicle Systems will manufacture, sell and maintain the Agilis 8×8 armored vehicle, which will be produced in joint venture with the plant Moreni.

Rheinmetall will build 400 new armoured personnel carriers at the Moreni factory, with a delivery deadline for 2020, at the same time Rheinmetall will offer maintenance services from its Romania site until 2055.

The future Agilis 8×8 vehicle is an armored transporter of superior mobility, which will be made available to the Romanian Army and other interested customers.

The German company also wants to build at the Moreni factory in Romania military trucks and other products for its international customers, as well as the 30-mm cannon that be will be fitted on the Agilis armoured vehicle.
