The Polish Air Force has received first new US cruise and air-to-surface missiles for its F-16 fighter jets fleet.

The first units of the American precision cruise missile JASSM Extended Range class “air-to-surface” arrived at the Polish airbase Krzesiny. That was reported by “Radio Poland”.

According to Polish Vice Admiral Marek Toczek, Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor in the $225 million deal, which stipulates that the American aerospace company supply 70 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range (JASSM-ER) missiles for Polish F-16 fighter jets.

JASSM is a long-range, conventional, air-to-ground, precision standoff missile for the U.S. and allied forces. Designed to destroy high-value, well-defended, fixed and relocatable targets, JASSM’s significant standoff range keeps aircrews well out of danger from hostile air defense systems.

The JASSM-ER is an advanced version of the AGM-158A cruise missile. The JASSM-ER has 70% hardware commonality and 95% software commonality with the original AGM-158 JASSM.
