China’s Military Parade Celebrates World War II Victory During his speech, President Xi Jinping of China announced he would reduce the country’s military personnel by 300,000. 12,000 officers and troops of the People’s Liberation Army are marching along Chang’an Avenue by Tiananmen Square. More than 500 items of weaponry and about 200 aircraft are on display at the parade.

China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is the world’s largest military, with 2.3 million members. China also has the second biggest defence budget after the US.
