Peruvian Special Forces Receives Jeep J8 Light Multipurpose Military Vehicles

The 1st Brigade of Peruvian Special Forces received the new batch of Jeep J8 (Wrangler JK) light multipurpose military vehicles.

The Jeep J8 is a light 4 x 4 military platform which is manufactured by Chrysler LLC and builds upon the military heritage of the Jeep branch which has been in continual military service since WWII.

The 1st Brigade J-8s were manufactured under license in Egypt and are armed with the 7.62x51mm Dillon M134D gatling gun.

The Jeep J8 is available in 5 doors configuration. The vehicle has a turbo-diesel engine, automatic gearbox and the Command-Trac 4WD systems allowing excellent performance and versatility in both on road and off road conditions.

The vehicle measures 4.63 m by 1.88 m in width and 2.95 m in height. The J-8 is suspended 23.1 cm from the ground, and the wheelbase is 1.61 m. Its weight is 3.36 tons. It can carry five fully equipped combatants or a total charge of 1.16 tons. Under special circumstances it is capable of towing up to 3.5 tons – capacity considered optimal by its manufacturers and users.
